To Prize Give Paws Poem by Glen Kappy

To Prize Give Paws

From "Curious Creatures"

Proverbs 23: 4

He crouched behind a sprinkler head.
I could not see where focus led.

He slowly moved in taller green
to keep himself from being seen.

And then the feline pounced at prey—
I saw a hopper hop away.

With jumps and swipes cat kept invading—
with hops the locust kept evading...

I didn't stay for sure demise
(such violence would drench my eyes) —
but wondered, was it a tasty prize?

I think this is hardly a doggerel. I enjoyed....Proverbs 23: 4 says, 'Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit.' Hmmmmm, I wonder who made it...I wouldn't want to stay for that either! Thanks Glen.

hey, pamela! i think i called it doggerel because mainly i was having some fun. you looked up the scripture reference—cool! the way my mind works, i witnessed this and wondered if the taste, the nutrition, in a grasshopper was worth the effort. but cats are attracted to movement, and the cat might mainly have been entertaining itself. thank you for reading and commenting. -glen
