To Only One's Self Poem by Francis Duggan

To Only One's Self

To only one's self can one only be true
And credit is called for where credit is due
And for a hard day's work there should be a good pay
But all in life is not fair 'twould be fair to say,
Of love of their Country the patriots do sing
But too much patriotism is not a good thing
Yourself before Country that's how it should be
Respect yourself and respect humanity,
Extremists of any kind can be extreme
They are not well balanced people or so it would seem
Religious zealots and extreme patriots are driven by fear
Obsessed with their beliefs their thinking is not clear
And your dream of a better World you must pursue
And to your own self you can only be true.
