To My Father Poem by Leila Mass

To My Father

You have me wondering, do you even care?
You don't call but every couple months.
And when you do, it's mostly silence because with you,
There's nothing that I will ever be brave enough to say.
I only see you once a year,
But it feels more like once in a lifetime, because everytime I visit,
Something is more important than spending time with me.

So you have a new wife now,
That means you have four new step children,
And they too are of higher importance than me.
You do so much for your new family,
But what do you do for us?
You make my sister cry.
You make my brother cry.
You make me cry.
That's all you do;
You bring us heartache.

You say you want everybody to be closer together.
But little do you know you're slowly tearing us apart.
Slowly chasing us away from you.
Slowing changing love into a bitter feeling.
Slowly losing us.
Some words of advice?
Don't make a promise you can't keep, father.

You say you want everybody to be closer together. But little do you know you're slowly tearing us apart. Slowly chasing us away from you. Slowing changing love into a bitter feeling. Slowly losing us. Some words of advice? Don't make a promise you can't keep, father. There's so much emotion flowing through thse lines. You have written it very well.
