To A Freedom Fighter
(For Leoul Mekonen)
By Moses B.B. Kuvoame

Atop the mountains he stands tall
A true and brave Son of Afrika
A Mahogany tree that weathers the storm
Defiant of the forces of darkness and evil
Whose relish are orphans and widows

Tunes of hope he trumpets aloud
That Ethiopia shall rise again
To celebrate its true heroes and heroines
Who greed and sadism have devoured
The voices of freedom and reason to choke

The echoes reverberate with vigour
The winds carry them afar
Faint souls to awaken and ignite
A solemn call to arm and fight
Human dignity to reclaim and re-enthrone

And Ethiopia shall rise again
Its true destiny to fulfil!
