To A Briefed Widow Poem by Leonard Ninwie

To A Briefed Widow

I saw us together with wrinkled hands bonded in love
And our grandchildren swimming in the pool of our sweat
It was a vision then a dream that ordained day I held beauty in
My eyes but torn between the world, my dark side and love
I did no better than the prophet Joshua but we were together
At the end of each day sharing the burden of the truth that my
Life was too short and feeble to run with our undimmed future
I wept many nights soaked in the sorrows of a dying man but
I had died many years ago and only your love resurrected me
And like Christ I had only the few moments to testify for love in
Throttled days spent with you that the vigilant calendar lost count
With the memories of us even in death my shaved sockets puddle
With tears in a dark room below your feet grieved by the pain of
Separation that keeps me leagues away beyond the sun's journey

Wipe your tears my love, oh my modest love and look at that weak
Smile I left on the wall in pain and be certain I never left your side
We would have our chance again my dear love, my greatest friend
Again in a new birth and our love will live again
And together we would conquer death
He can never do us apart my dearest widow
I never stopped loving you but you know this already.
