I awake form the first touch of sun rays
settling on my face
I don't feel its warmth
there are walls between us
only light enters my eyes without blinding
just a gentle reminder
I don't have to open them
I may surrender
My lips begin to curve into a smile of freedom
my hands may dance upon the surface of the pillow
I leave my mind blank
thoughts have a way
of erasing contentment
not the flute of the heart
I allow it to beat without the drums
of time
give me a moment to breath
and sing eternal songs
of the day to come
