Time And Numbers Poem by Toshie Nohara

Time And Numbers

In this generation time and numbers rule
us
In this 21st century of the
modern world
New inventions overwhelm
us
We are slaves to time and numbers
Technology of all
kinds with switches and press buttons in
electrical gadgets
Washing machines, dryers
Sophistical micro ovens, rice cookers
Convenient no doubt, yet at
times can frustrate
us with too many
technical terms beyond
understanding
One wrong timing
The chicken maybe burnt due to long
hours of roasting
Careless operation leads to
accidents in the kitchen
'Cos its too troublesome to
remember all the instructions
Oftentimes wondering how our
brain will function

We are surrounded by
alarm clocks, table clocks, wall clocks
And watches
Then telephones- all these things nag
us daily with
time and numbers
Can't avoid looking at
time and numbers whether
day or night
In computers again we are faced with a
calendar, even a thermometer
With the date and temperature of
the day
So
We are controlled by
time and numbers whether
we like it or not
No point complaining or
sighing
So
Comfort ourselves with a smile.
