Til Today (Song) Poem by Jessmyn Bergemann

Til Today (Song)

I saw your truck today
Someone else behind the wheel
I never thought that I could cry like that.

I kept on moving
Oh, one step at a time
Faster and faster
So I didn’t look behind

It didn’t take to long
Before I dropped to the floor
Head in my hands, images of you
Walking out the door

You kept on walking
With out a second a second glance
I stood there when I came home
Wondered why no second chance

I keep on crying
Though it’s been so very long
I’ve learned how to be alone again
And how to be so strong
'Til today.

I took your phone call
When I knew I shouldn’t have
It made me weak again
Remembering the times we had

There were some good times
And, oh, some bad ones too
Remembering your touch again
Just made me break in two

It didn’t take to long
Before I dropped to the floor
Head in my hands images of you
Walking out the door

You kept on walking
You didn’t say goodbye
You left a note by the phone
Not really saying why

I keep on crying
Even though you wanna come home
Can I trust again, love again
I don’t wanna be alone
'Til today

‘Til today
‘Til today
‘Til today

I woke this morning
And I took a bath
I looked in the mirror
For answers to my path
I smiled slightly with brilliant eyes
No more grieving or alibis

I put on your shirt
And I smelled your smell
Tied up my hair
Knowing how hard I fell
I ran again down that same dirt track
Looking for you but not looking back

You were gone

‘Til today
‘Til today’
‘Til today
Yeah

Just keep on walking
Even though I want you here
To smell your smell, feel your breath
Hold you now close to my chest

I can’t keep crying
But I know that it’s right
You broke me in two, again I am unglued
I won’t make it through the night
Won’t make it through the night
I saw your truck today
Someone else behind the wheel
I never thought that I wouldn’t cry
‘Til today
