Those Three Words Poem by Stephanie Sanchez

Those Three Words

I kinda freaked out
When you said those three words
I didn’t know what to do
I just thought to myself
Does he love me?
Do I love him
Inside my head I screamed
Yes, I do
A moment of silence
As we gazed into each others eyes
“I Love You”
I said
And right then and there
I Fell
Harder than you could imagine
I was left with scrapes and skinned knees
Because I fell
I fell for you
And only you
Those three words
So powerful
Baby, do you understand me?
I fell for you
Those three words
You said at that moment
Everyday I think back on that day
Because those scrapes and scratches I had are now opened scars
And baby, they still hurt when I look at them
When I look at the day we fell apart
Do you remember those words?
Do you remember my cries?
And my falls
As we walked away from us
Do you see my hurt?
Do you see my scars?
Because of those three words
I wish you never said them
I wish I never knew them
Because these scars are wide open
And they just won’t close
But the thing is
I still love you
With all of my heart
Those three words
Who knew?
