Those Neon Lights Poem by Jeff Saifi

Those Neon Lights

Under those neon lights
Outside my favorite bar
Is where you first kissed me?
Walking to your car
The years have passed
And the bars torn down
But those lights still stand
Where they've always been found

I drove by there just the other day
And it always makes me smile
To remember the way
You kissed me and held me tight
Standing there
Under those neon lights

I came into a little bit of luck
I saved my change
I had an extra buck
So I bought that land
Where those lights still stand
Then commenced to erect
A most grand plan

It wasn't long
Before the bar was back
With a parking lot full
And the dance floor packed
We had cold beer flowing
And the neon glowing
When I happened to see
What was just a memory?
Standing there
Under those neon lights

You said those neon lights
They called your name
And the magic they bring
Is why you came?
It was a dream come true
That I've dreamt many nights
Since you first kissed me
And held me tight
Standing there
Under those neon lights
