This Keeps Me Going Poem by Marbet Daniel

This Keeps Me Going

The firm hope in the uncertain
That sometime someday
To others I will say
The mountains were high
But I managed the peak
The darkness was extreme
But I sought out the dim beam
Minutes compared to hours
But days came to the end
The water troughs went dry
But even with clear sky
I could wait for it to be filled
When there was no one to share my thoughts,
but thank God,
Pen and paper could listen and save.
When cold water in a chilly morning,
tasted as good as honey
maybe even then,
the empty stomach realized the energy in it.
When propinquity to every bad,
seemed just a foot ahead
and all the good were miles behind,
I still could crawl back.
I long for that day
that which calls for patience
perseverance and being strong.
God help me to cross this safely
this valley with no end
Let me not fall into it.
