This Is What You Do To Your Life! Poem by Amrit Rathi

This Is What You Do To Your Life!

Rating: 5.0

A blonde in a sports car cuts off a large truck.
The angry driver pulls her out,
draws a circle on the ground,
and threatens,
“Stand in that circle and DON'T MOVE! ”
then goes to her car and cuts out her leather seats.
When he turns around,
she has a slight grin on her face.
“Oh you think that's funny? Watch this! ”
He breaks every window in her car.
But when he turns and looks at her,
she has a smile on her face.
“What's so funny? ” he demands of the blonde,
who replies, “Every time you weren't looking,
I stepped outside the circle!
Ha, Ha, Ha…”

This is what you do to your life.
You do all the things
to make somebody ruin
your relationships, life, love, and dreams;
yet you are not aware
as you think you are very smart in doing that.

You don’t open your heart, you don’t think;
and you never see what you are missing,
as you consider yourself,
too smart or
too rich or
too wise or
indifferent—
or some other selfish thought.

When someone loves you, you pretend to love.
When someone is honest, you try to fool.
You do just the opposite of what is needed:
an absolute negative cycle, in fact,
thinking we are so very smart in doing that.
You may win a battle, but lose the war.
What are you? You are conceited,
not knowing how false the successes are.

This is the irony!
If you care
with open heart and mind to share,
your happiness, your sorrows,
your humility, your cares,
your compassion,
and help,
they will give you unlimited love,
they will certainly understand.
And your life will smile—
you can’t imagine such a lovely flare—
and successes will come along,
like a very close friend.

'You can’t imagine, with a lovely flare, And successes will come beside Like a very close friend.' I liked these lines very much. The idea of success being personified is very good.

you know I REALLY like this one- such a valuable lesson- 'This is the irony! If you care With open heart and mind to share, Your happiness, your sorrows, Your humility, our cares, Your compassion, And your help, They will give you unlimited love, ' This is so true and expressed so well- I love the example you give at the beginning about the blond with the car and standing in the circle, etc. Great imagination in expressing a lesson that should be of value to anyone! Great job- you know you write VERY well, with your unique style- many of your poems tell a story- I like that- it makes them very readable and wanting to read more! Keep up the good work! - Claudia

A very thought-provoking one, indeed. It made me indulge in self-introspection.

They will give you unlimited love, They will certainly understand. And your life will smile, You can’t imagine, with a lovely flare, And successes will come beside Like a very close friend. An especially beautiful conclusion to the final stanza. This is what true friends and the beautiful people always give.
