Thiruvalluvar's Couplets On ' Fate ' Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Thiruvalluvar's Couplets On ' Fate '

Rating: 5.0

371. When fate favours, it brings about perseverance in man to earn.
An ill-fate makes him idle for the wealth in him to wane.

372. A bad time dulls your wisdom into folly.
But a good time widens your wisdom.

373.Though a man is well versed by going through subtle works
only the intelligence destined to him prevails.

374.The ways of Nature are of two different kinds.
Fortune smiles on some; wisdom brightens the minds of others.

375.In your acquisition of wealth, things seeming good turn to evil;
and the evil things turn to good by fate.

376.Things fated to be not yours, won’t stay with you even if guarded;
Things of yours won’t leave you even if you throw them away.

377.Though you amassed wealth ten millions worth,
you couldn’t enjoy save the portions ordained.

378.If fate spares the destitute poor from miseries,
they will renounce desires and become ascetics.

379.Those who rejoice at the turn of good things,
why they grumble when they encounter the turn of evil?

380.Is there a stronger force than fate? If you plan to avert it,
it will rush through another way to forestall you.
