Thinking In Verse Poem by Sandra Feldman

Thinking In Verse

I hope never to write,
What is not True,
My thoughts come out in Verse,
They don't try to,
They just do.

MY THOUGHTS COME OUT IN VERSE./THEY DON'T TRY TO./THEY JUST DO. That certainly identifies not only the genre of improvisatory verse but a certain kind of poet. I think Dylan Thomas had this ability and certainly Vladimir Mayakovsky did, as Russian students have told me. I really like Eugene Levich's response. How charming. I am sadly deficient in the spontaneity/improvisation aspects of poetry. Not for me THE POETRY SLAM although I like to witness the contest of poetic wits. Wordsworth's definition of poetry is the closest to me: words, actions, images recollected and shaped into verse IN TRANQUILITY.

And how lucky our Sandra-poem lovers are for that!
