Things To Do, July 4th 2014 Poem by Robert Melliard

Things To Do, July 4th 2014

1. Please try to be tidier!
The garage is a mess
not to mention the car
or the kitchen
or your shelf in the bathroom.

2. Keep off the wine!
However good it is in Spain
it just befuddles you.
Remember, you ain't on holiday yet!

3. You still have to do the few classes you have left
so write out a new timetable or you'll forget one!

4. Don't drink too much coke!
(Someone famous died from that just recently.)

5. Above all, keep your family and friends in mind.
You'd be useless without them...

Note: Perhaps such lists are a way of trying to make choices, so necessary in order to exercise true freedom. That's the connection with July 4th.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I think I wrote this partly because of the connection with freedom, which most people in the West remember on July 4th. We have to make choices in order to exercise liberty, and writing Things To Do lists may help me to do that.
