. Things They Never Told Me Poem by Mary Havran

. Things They Never Told Me

Rating: 3.4

They lied to me when I was young
(Or perhaps sinned by omission)
Never was there any mention made
Of a body’s loss of commission

Perhaps the flaw of foolish youth
I blocked their words and missed the truth
Yet I could swear I never heard them
(Though witnessed clues now and again)

Now I discover each day brings the chore
Of merely rising up and the daily bore
To deal with each bodily requirement
(Oh thank God for early retirement)

I forgive them for any oversight
It matters little when late at night
I recline in bed quite grateful for
Sleep I’ve learned to appreciate more

there are days when we just want to take comfort in sleep. only in hindsight, we discover the advice of our elders. i blocked their words and missed the truth- truly insightful

'I blocked their words and missed the truth'.......a sad fact of the human condition! Excellent.

Oops...I do believe you said it...they may have told us and we weren't listening...my body and mind don't always connect...too few synapses holding hands...my 76 year old dad meantime can out run me in a race...maybe we shouldn't listen...lovely, funny, and true....good to have you back...Coach

Nice poem Mary! Seems as we get older we all find out about all these things, that weren't mentioned, when we were young. Great read! ! *10*! ! ! Best wishes, Friend Thad
