They Walk The Street. Poem by Steven Harris

They Walk The Street.

Rating: 4.5

I look around at the town at night
walk the damp dark streets
seeing all the penniless drunk roam
nobody there to ask for change
nobody around with a kind heart
all the nightclubers walk away
laugh at the penniless as they walk by
ignoring them as they hunt for a cab
the homeless with nowhere to sleep
curl up and lay on the street
the young poeple move fast when they see them
cold and lonely
and poeple laugh
no idea how it must be
not a kind heart walks these streets
but the penniless drunks will always wonder
always looking
always going to be around
hungry, lost and lonely
i bet they could tell a story
sing a song of good times gone
all the jounryes made
and the tale where it all went wrong
just nobody to tell it to
nobody to share it with
lost, lonely and roaming the streets
maybe there is still a chance left
still hope in their eyes
all thats left to cling too
maybe one more chance before they die
a dream that keeps them going
there is still hope for the lost
just only if they could tell someone
just if someone would stop and listen
but nobody will
they dark streets at night
full of young poeple
they still have their lives to lead
get their stories written
none of them will listen
none of them will stop and give an old bum a chance
and the penniless will continue to roam
and walk the streets
hope still in there eyes
hoping one day someone will listen
maybe someone will stop and listen
that hope will alays be their
it will never leave
and they will always walk the street
lost, hungry and alone
they always be there
ready to tell a story
someone will listen to their story one day.

A profound poem and a good write. I invite you to read my Alone on the Streets which is similar.
