They Met Poem by Holly Jamestone

They Met

They met when a body had barely turned cold
A magical odyssey then would unfold
A night of such passion with hearts on two sleeves
Champagne on a porch and then, later, tea leaves

A day at the beach and a walk on the sand
With trouble and mischief and ticket in hand
He loved her
She knew it
And he rocked her world
She loved him
He knew it
Their magic unfurled

In cleaning her closet she found the black dress
With rended black ribbon to honor the dead
A life had to end for a love to begin
But Helen would want her to love him instead

She knew that her son was not ready for this
The woman in black never did want his kiss
The blonde at the grave had prayed on that day
For Helen and Angels to take her away

Away from the canopy, all the blank faces
And into the arms of a man who held graces
Of dignity, softness, and hair like no other
Now grateful are they to the first man’s dead mother

A day at the beach and a walk on the sand
With trouble and mischief and ticket in hand
He loved her
She knew it
And he rocked her world
She loved him
He knew it
Their magic unfurled
