These Ties That Bind Us

Original Kannada Poem: K.V. Puttappa (Kuvempu)
Translated by C.P. Ravikumar

These ties that bind you and me together
How far back do they go?
To how many previous lives?
I do not know.

But I make this promise
In the name of God Almighty
I shall love you always
Wherever we might be.

Worldly Life is an endless sea;
Furious waves ravage its surface.
But somewhere beneath it is a quiet brook
That to lovelorn hearts gives solace.

Let's leave these intricate puzzles
To their creator himself, for now!
These moments are precious, join me
In a sojourn on the path of love!
