There Have Been No Oceans Poem by May Doyle

There Have Been No Oceans

sometimes
i think
my life is over
until i remember
it hasn't even begun
there have been no oceans
no kisses on porch steps
no diplomas
and no finished novels
not enough smiling
but
not enough crying either
and
not enough shattering glass
or
shattering hearts
and
not enough
hello! 's
or
goodbye! 's
not enough
cookies baked
and
not enough toast burned
not enough dreams built
and not enough
bridges burned
not enough
time with friends
or
time alone
or
time alone with friends
not enough space
and
not crowded enough
not enough ice cream eaten
but probably not enough broccoli either
not enough wishing
hoping
dreaming
and not enough dreams
coming true
not enough time
to have found 'you'
so when i think
'my life is over! '
i'll know it can't be true
because there have been no oceans
and not enough burning sky blue
