THERE ARE SO MANY SMALL PLEASURES IN WALKING

There are so many small pleasures in walking
This morning it is in the coolness and freshness of the air
But also of course in what the eyes give
The long distances of the open road and the sky
The dark waiting for the hinted light of dawn
The beauty of the world around trees and dreams and skies
Just being alive
There are so many small pleasures in walking
More than I can name
Or at anyone time be fully aware of
The feeling of moving painlessly
The sense of my own health
And of the day ahead
Out there on my own going into the distance
The pleasure of being alive
Cool fresh air
On the way back home
Covering the ground
Alive.
