There Are Few Of Us Near To Perfect Poem by Francis Duggan

There Are Few Of Us Near To Perfect

There are few of us near to perfect as some like to say
And from perfection so many of us seem so far away
What we dislike in others in our own selves we do see
You dislike in yourself what you dislike in me
The thing known as ego is a styrange creature indeed
In life you cannot be successful if success you don't need
You do not realize your dreams if them you don't pursue
I cannot take credit for saying what is true
To the greedy and powerful I could not drink a toast
But they have the power since they need it the most
And that the gap between the haves and have nots is widening by the day
Is a fact of life though a sad thing to have to say
And those near to perfect in the admirable few
You might say to that tell us something that's new.
