Then And Now Poem by Subir Ningthouja

Then And Now

Long ago
When everything was possible
When we winked back at the stars
Caressed the moon
Smiled boldly at the sun
Chased our reflections
Below the green waters
And I
I planted my first kiss
On your virgin cheek
The light of electric bulbs
Did come in waves, upon waves
Breaking our first kiss
Long ago
When everything was possible
When our dreams were so true
We did say to each other
Our lives could be but
Parallel railroad tracks
Always in sight, never meeting
But your hand was on mine
Always and always
And we laughed off our thoughts

Now
When the seven seas
And the seven mighty ranges
Do come between us
No sight and sound between us
Possible
Just the swirling memories
Of the kisses
Of the tightly held hands
Of the sweet laughter
The fragrance of the jasmine trees
In the dark moonless nights
And I
I do miss you, my only love
And though time runs ceaselessly
You are there
Forever young
For me

And ever has it been known that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation.
