Go home and write a poem
One that comes from you
Out of you
Then it will be true

It's not that simple.

So I go home, on a bike, at 3: 30
Go down Liberty Street for 7 blocks
Then take a right for a block and
Turn left on Franklin.
And there's my house.
A little green one, with a bunch of little
Kids waiting for you, peeking out the window.

Even at that, it's not too easy. My age,13, your age, older.
It may not be true, in attempt to bend the truth. But maybe it will be.

If it's what I've seen, been, heard, said, and done.
Or if I hear you, you hear me, he hears you, me, him,
You two, they, us, them...who?

If you ask me, I like to eat, sleep, hangout with friends, plays some basketball.
Laugh, enjoy life, and have a life. I like to learn about life, how to live,
Why I'm here, what I'm to do, where to go, who to go too.
I like to get things, earn things, work for things.

But at my age, my group, my life, my grade.
Not many ask me, nor do they need to
It's not cause I'm colored, that was a different day and age
Not because I'm poor, hurt, special, or lame.
Even then I can make it through.
Because of family, friends, strangers.
Cause of my teachers.
I will make it happily.
That's what it means to be an American.

Sometimes people won't want to know you, .
That's okay, I don't want to know them.
That doesn't mean I hate them,
It just means I don't have the time, or won't ever see them again.
If their older or younger, foreign or free born,
We are equal here.

And that's my theme for 5th Period English

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
