The Zoo Poem by Christopher Morrison

The Zoo

I watched a brunette beauty
sing to caged tigers
watching-
how the light seeped into their eyes.
It broke all boundaries, of
time, of space,
of me, and of you.
Her voice was something of
fiction, caught in-between
the real life actions of day
and the science of which
we sleep.
Her voice was more land
than the tigers ever needed-
and I never again saw
how bright eyes would flicker
in the afternoon light.
