The Young Girl From Eritrea Poem by Edward Kofi Louis

The Young Girl From Eritrea

The muse of life,
The muse of love,
The ways of nature;
With the works of the young girl from Eritrea,
Out of the hole to see the light.

The muse of life!
The muse of the wind blew across her face;
As she came out of the hole.

The muse of love!
The strong wind blew across her face;
As she came out of the hut,
But, far ahead of her, she could see a beautiful house.

The muse of nature!
With works and words from her land;
Coming out of the shadows of darkness,
And, sitting at the corner of the hut waiting for someone to help her.

The young girl from Eritrea!
The 15 year old girl;
Seeing the very future ahead of her,
With hope and dreams from her poverty.
