The Words

I am the words of the lost
And broken
The words that ring with truth
Even as they hurt to hear
I am the words of a song
Now forgotten
That silence plays; you cannot hear
I am the words of a heart once broken
And of the pain it took to mend
I am the words of the young
Of the old
The words that they dare speak
I am the words the world speaks
And the cries the clouds utter
I am the words of a thundering clap
The words the haunted have long kept
I am the words of a beautiful blade
Buried under the sand
I am the words of a deep dark sea
So deep we cannot reach
I am the words of a trust now broken
It lays shattered, cutting those who go near
I am the words the rain says as it falls from the sky
The words of girl much like I
I am the words of the lost
And broken
The words that ring with truth
Even as they hurt to hear

Poem of the Day

poet Robert William Service

Just Home and Love! the words are small
Four little letters unto each;
And yet you will not find in all
The wide and gracious range of speech
Two more so tenderly complete:
