The Word Immortal Poem by Francis Duggan

The Word Immortal

The word immortal only applies to Nature all others have to die
And that applies to everyone including you and I
The years go by so quickly and too soon we grow old
For time takes care of everyone including the bravest and the bold
The word immortal often used about famous writers and famed artist and poet
And World renowned leaders who seem worthy of note
Their names may well outlive them by centuries but their names too have a use by date
They are not true immortals though them we celebrate
The word immortal is often used to describe one of great renown
The people who are looked upon as the heroes of the town
But all heroes like the Seasons to life they come and go
And like the Autumn leaf in the flooded river that to the ocean flow
All life forms return to Nature if not sooner then late
The only true immortal on her no use by date.
