The Wonder Of Thought Poem by Glen Kappy

The Wonder Of Thought

from 'While Passing Through'/Summer

In my pocket
my fingers feel two pills—
headache I forgot!

*
Only one lap
around the park—
but many journeys!

I know that experience! ! The haiku form implicitly show the joy of NOT needing the pills, the relief that just living through the day accomplished the healing with no need for chemicals. It strikes me that only the haiku form could compress so much satisfaction in NOT doing something. It's a triumph of alternative thinking, even paradoxical thinking.

I thought you'd relate, Daniel. I do love how much can be compressed into so little. In this case the prompt for gratitude. And I think of your poem which in your notes you describe as your own Ars Poetica. Which, in turn, reminds me of Mac Leish's (sp?) for all the history of grief a maple leaf (or somwething like that) . -Glen
