The Winter's Song Poem by Andrea Rieck

The Winter's Song

Where has the world gone?
Under a blanket of white
It’s time for winter’s song
And it’s whimsical sight

Can you hear them falling?
Tears of a barren sky
Sadness of a struggling nature
Turned into a beautiful sigh

What lies in those forests?
Of trees covered in ice
What wonders lies beyond
The waning night, the descending sun

Count the snow flakes as they fall
Twice too many
Far too little
Each one a different harmony

Trace the shapes with your fingers
Invent the shadows of snow
Write it yourself
In paper that will melt

Leave a memory that will leave with the sun’s return
Though it will vanish
It will never fade
Next winter it will call again

A part of the winter’s song
