The Will Of The Poet Seer Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

The Will Of The Poet Seer

Vanished
The Poet Seer.

One week after
All the town knew
‘The Poet Seer is vanished’

Then one said:
‘His will? ’

Another said:
‘Go fetch his house’

And they went and found
The will.

And read aloud
In front of the whole crowd.

‘Friends when you find me
Not
Look in to my verses
Read and read
And the more you read
The more you see of me
The more you have of me.’

So short?
One said.

‘Yes’, said the Philosopher
‘that was a Will’.

I wonder if the Poet Seer is as much a mystery to himself as he is to others. I don't know why he vanished. Exhaustion? Sense of his mission fulfilled? Readiness to let others take over? But he does seem to want to erase any hero worship regarding his accomplishments. He was always one to focus on the task at hand, the necessary work to be done. His is not the life of the honored guest, but the dutiful servant. What his motivations we know they are pure-hearted.

Truly, poetry is the biography of a poet.
