The Way Life Goes Poem by Chanel Jackson

The Way Life Goes

They say you have control
You can pick
And you can choose
But there’s always the possibility
That you can lose
Can’t get what you want
Cause life’s a huge disappointment
Everyone lies
Everyone cheats
No honest people
How can you not believe?
People here are only meant to deceive
So their goals they can achieve.
Don’t care about you
You’re just there to be used
To wipe their dirty shoes
A dirty used tissue
Swept away by dirty rain water
Over the side of a dirty curb
As you watch the scenery pass by
Of scuffling feet, tossed cups, old food and garbage
Only to be dumped in a sewer
To occupy the company of the acrid stench of sewer water
Or to be the meal of a hungry sewer rat
