The War On Terror Poem by Francis Duggan

The War On Terror

For to defeat terrorism one do not wage war on terror for terrorists do not respect man made laws
Since the only way that terror can be defeated is for Governments to attack it's root cause
And that is not to shoot and bomb and murder for terror is caused by inequality
For the war on terror ought to be more friendly a benign war on man made poverty.

The war on terror can be won by love and kindness through understanding and generosity
Though the only war on terror that we know of embraces the dark side of humanity
Governments spend billions on fighter planes and bombs and armies and on weapons made to kill maim and destroy
And violence won't be overcome by violence though the poor and the defenceless have to die.

This war on terror is the height of madness it has only made the World to live in less secure
If they spend some of the billions that they spend on bombs and war planes in supplying alms, clothing and food to the poor
Then the World to live in would be safer and the scourge of terror in time would subside
For violence only seems to breed more violence and due to violence far too many have died.

The war on terror will go on forever for one form of violence by another cannot be beat
Those who spend billions on deadly weapons might do better in giving homes to the homeless of the street
For in places of happiness and plenty the weed of terror goes into decay
Poverty can be overcome by love and kindness and in such a World terror would fade away.
