The Understudy Poem by Sam Pendlebury

The Understudy

I live my life day to day, my dream to be the lead in her play
Deep within my heart I rehearse my part
I watch from here in the second row
Every breath she takes I watch and study
So beautiful is she there is nothing else I see
I fell in love with her on opening day
Since the opening act, I new what part was ment for me
Now I spend every moment with my fingers crossed praying for
The part I was born to play
You see I am the understudy
This leading ladys life I so want to be a part
Till that day I will practice my lines, hold my breath and keep my
fingers crossed, hopeing someday I'll get the part
Till then look for me somewhere in the second row
Waiting and still praying for her to see
It's me that should play the lead, In this her life long play
