The Transformed Poem by Bernard Onoja

The Transformed

Rating: 2.7

Poor Omeche. Born to a father of sound medical history. With no case of cancer, dating back three generations.

Leading a normal life like every other in a tiny neighbourhood called Otukpa. A champion, multitalented and promising. Like a flower opening to the rising sun.

Recruited to a ward of the infected. Having contracted it through a cut from a wet bathroom floor. Like any tree in a thick forest felled by the lumberjacks saw.

Different strokes for different folks. As some got it through sexual contact. Oh! Papillomavirus, could have been prevented by vaccination.

Projections growing in the mouth and genitals by some types of human papilloma virus. There it goes again transforming cells in other parts of the body as though touched by the wand of a magician.
