The Town That Never Sleep Poem by LaRon Green Sr.

The Town That Never Sleep

Rating: 5.0

In DC
we play for keeps
even when we
are watching TV
our streets are
mean and greedy
the kids are always
outside low down
dirty and mischeivous
hungry from not
being feed
they beg
wishing they had
bread and water
only cupcake and soda
mothers and fathers
out there playing
cat and mice
running the streets
chasing mighty mouse
being high and drink
smelling like
a stinky skunk
being away
all day
they come
in the house
ouch
kids in doubt
no lights
no gas
how long its
going to last
kids all
grown up now
we look
and frown
two turn out
like mom and dad
how sad
not learning from
the past
they turn
the same corners
how sooner
they were
six feet under
by thunder
no wonder
it's dark
in the town
that never sleep
drugs done
took over
like mami heat
we now most reap
in them same streets
if we don't turn
the streak

I liked this poem. Good imagery. Nice flow. Appropriate diction. Not the Washington I see on TV.
