The Terrible Circus Poem by Edmond Morrison

The Terrible Circus

The Terrible Circus is coming to town
devoid of all laughter
and minus one clown
The Terrible Circus is coming today
So stay in your houses
so kneel down and pray

No lions, no tigers commend it's array
It's acrobats missing
and long gone astray
But there are things aplenty
in tent, cage and tope
Though few wish to see them
The Things that might stop

There's a tank filled with White Things
That wriggle and broil
and last year they made off
with young Jimmy Doyle

There's a Translucent Lady
Behind a Dark Veil
and a strange aged baby
whose made some hearts fail

There are Dark Things in number
within it's display
from this World and that World
they're coming today

So stay out of that meadow
and wish the night on
'til the Terrible Circus
has faded and gone
