Hunger my mother told me
Never kills any man
Don't deny me a slab of rock
I can squeeze water out of it
Hunger never weakens a man
Strength it gives to the discerning
It makes a labyrinth of thought
In your head each a way in
Or a way out.
It breaks the monopoly of possessions
And wreak complacency into shreds
That makes for want
Hunger my mother told me
Never weakens a man
But stirs the best of him
Never deny me a stone
Or I will not have a teacher
Of wisdom.
