The Swings Poem by Bethany Unknown

The Swings

Rating: 5.0

Every child’s favorite pastime
Every spare second spent there
Rocking back and forth, now back again
Pump, higher, harder go into the sky
We feel like we can fly, maybe if we try.
Ready! Set! Jump!
And for a few moments we can
Fully airborne, then gravity hits and we crash.
Fall to the ground, no pain- just exhilarating
We get back on to go again
That feeling of being Invincible.
As we grow older and out of childhood
Memories are the only thing we have.
Once in a while we sneak back out
Just for a few minutes
We are unbeatable once more.
Soaring, flying, higher we go.
The bells ring, our time is up now
We must return to the way things were.
Days go by, nothing changes
Months pass and we are still the same
Waiting, hoping, wishing we could sway.
Years go on and we come home again
Just for a visit, we are there
Both you and me, reunited at the park
We run to the swings.
Knowing our fun is fleeting
But we play anyway
Having the time of our lives
We swing, jump, land
Nothing has changed all around us
But inside we will wait for another chance
