The Streets Poem by Mike Smith

The Streets

Nepotism is the cause of socialism
All our young men end up in prison
Taken from the jungle we call the streets
Trying to take down the cop on his beat
Do we think our society is full of optimism?
No, but worst of all is we have racism
Never ending all of this hate we have for one another
Can’t we all just treat everyone as our brother?
Every single day on the streets someone will die
Do you or I ask ourselves why?
Only when someone of importance dies do we all recognize
The truth of the matter is we should all realize
Whether you are rich or poor, black or white
Everyone’s life means something to someone, we can’t lose site
Of the fact that when someone dies we should all morn
Regardless of who they are, what they do or where they were born
Hatred is an ugly emotion, where is our devotion
What’s with all this commotion, another brother dies in the streets?
