The Stranger Poem by Sandra Martyres

The Stranger

Rating: 5.0

The train is late
It wll be a long and tedious wait
At the little village railway station
The stranger finds a vacant seat
Next to an attractive village belle
He pulls out a newspaper
And slowly lights a cigarette
Seconds later, he finds her staring
She has never seen a Caucasian before
He smiles, she looks away embarrassed
The colour of his skin is unusual
He appears paler in his grey clothes
When compared with her colourful skirt
And even more brightly coloured bangles
The contrast is striking
She looks at her own sunburnt brown skin
And then shyly glances at him
Will she or won't she ask
A question about his origin?

She won't ask, I guess. But she lives this moment joyously. She'll always remember him, and his smile. 10+

I love these poems that capture a scene you have experienced through your own eyes. Scenes are unfolding every second of every day and yours brought me into the scene with great skill. 10/10 Karin Anderson
