The Storm Poem by Ricky Durkin

The Storm

*Dark as a shadow
Windy as a hurricane
Worried about my dad
He's not home yet
Where could he be
The storm is rolling in fast
Turn on the TV
See a rolled truck on the news
One man killed
The lightning flashes
The thunder booms
The rain comes down hard
I start to cry
I curse at the sky
Why didn't he come home
Can't control my emotions
The rain clears
I'm still crying
I see a truck drive up the road
Could it be my dad
the signal turns on,
goes into my neighbors driveway
My dad steps out of the passenger door
He's alive
His truck was in a wreck
It was totaled
I don't care about the truck
I run up to him and I squeeze him
I'm glad he's alive
