The Steps To Ecstasy Poem by John A. Hancock

The Steps To Ecstasy

I climbed the winding stairs of thy temple
Stopping at rest at each exotic curve
To comptemplate my direction and that
Your pleasure having been assured
Pausing yet ne'er dwelling
Taking time only just enough to tease
Open doors long forgotten when
The quest for love abandon'd thee
Fling your shutters open
Set your passion free
Sweep away the dust of disenchantment
Whilst we resume the steps to ecstasy
