The Start Of It All Poem by Joyce Hemsley

The Start Of It All

Railways are forever in the news
and great things happened in
north-east England many years ago.
George Stephenson, famed engineer
built his first locomotive and invented
the Safety Lamp, becoming 'Engineer
of The Year' at age forty; he continued
his good work on the world's first
Public Railway...Stockton/Darlington
and also Liverpool/Manchester, where
he built his most famous 'Stephenson's
Rocket' in 1829.
These few brief lines I take pleasure in
writing. We owe so much to the Late
and great George Stephenson.
