The Spirit Of Pure Energy - Poem by Orlando Belo

Where does the spirit of life go when you pass away?
Sometimes you can see it leave the body behind,
like a cloud evaporating on a hot summer's day.

I know it travels upwards I suppose into space,
but what does it do and where does it rest
after residing inside a host with a body and face.

Logic dictates that it returns to the source of all energy,
perhaps to download all the data it has collected
whilst giving a limited life to a human before it becomes free.

After purging, it may well be released to seek out a new birth
so it can again gather information in the form of energy,
on any planet in the universe like that of Earth.

No one knows where the universe's energy emanates from,
but still it expands without end and becomes ever stronger.
Perhaps we do help by dying, so that life's energy lives on.

    The Spirit Of Pure Energy
This sounds a quite philosophical theme and it has to be viewed from a philosophical angle. In my view Buddhism has a clear explanation to this whole idea. Buddha's wisdom has seen through all these 2600 years ago, quite clearly and shown that every material thing finally boils down to mere energy, which scientists of today too have come to a settlement with. Yours seem a very thought provoking and carrying a profound meaning. Congrats for being the member's PoD. Thanks for sharing. (Report) Reply

Matthew 26: 64 - Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Matthew 24: 30 - And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

1 Thessalonians 4: 17 - Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Nahum 1: 3 - The LORD [is] slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit [the wicked]: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds [are] the dust of his feet.

Revelation 21: 4 - And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

    Wonderful poem- voted 10.

    Philosophic verses
You are very much to the point. Shall I expand a little? Actually, nobody can define what this sort of energy is. Hindu philosophy calls it the Prana. There are six major plugs between the head and the beginning of the thighs through which this life giving force enters the body. One can locate six glands in these regions as well. Our thoughts and the level of body can affect these plugs and hence the entry of this Prana. To that degree, we would suffer. What happens at the time of death is the release of the subtle mind which contains all the accumulated tendencies of all the births. Our Vedanta calls this accumulated tendencies by the name Vasana. It can be seen that it is these Vasanas which drive our thoughts and actions in certain directions to create this whole world. So, after our death, this subtle mind containing our Vasanas are still in search of further forms and hence become responsible for our rebirths. If the subtle mind doesn't contain any accumulated tendencies at the time of death (desireless persons, great monks etc) , no rebirth is possible after that. These Vasanas are so powerful that they can create forms and an entire world from their very subtle levels. One may call it in simple terms energy becoming forms (matter) once again. Creation is called Srusti and these Vasanas are responsible for the entire Srusti of the world. I am becoming a poet or writer or a musician or a sculptor or a scientist out of my accumulated tendencies, out of my innate nature. The drives are very much internal. The external world is only a spark, a hint for that matter. Otherwise, who asked us to become poets or scientists? Take away the entire material universe and what would still remain? Space and Energy fields. The subtlest form of these is the Consciousness, awareness. This is just beyond the scope of our intellect. Our intellect is very much limited because this faculty functions within space and time. Mind is subtler than this and the spirit is the subtlest of all. The subtler something is, the more is the capacity to pervade on. It means that from gross matter, it is becoming a field. I very much appreciate you for your philosophical insight in this regard. I am only adding an appendix to your idea. That is all. (Report) Reply

Cosmic consciousness, which is a higher form of consciousness than that possessed by the ordinary man (Wikipedia)

''This consciousness shows the cosmos to consist not of dead matter governed by unconscious, rigid, and unintending law; it shows it on the contrary as entirely immaterial, entirely spiritual and entirely alive; it shows that death is an absurdity, that everyone and everything has eternal life; it shows that the universe is God and that God is the universe, and that no evil ever did or ever will enter into it; a great deal of this is, of course, from the point of view of self consciousness, absurd; it is nevertheless undoubtedly true.''- Cosmic Consciousness: A Study in the Evolution of the Human Mind, a book by Richard Maurice Bucke (1901)

Certainly, life's energy lives on in one or other form. Congrats on poem of the Day for this thoughtfully conceived meaningful poem. (Report) Reply

Where does the spirit of life go when you pass away?
Logic dictates that it turns to the source of all energy...
Perhaps we do help by dying, so that life's energy lives on. Yes, perhaps!
But, life's energy, where did it comes from in the first place?
Despite of Logic, despite of the study science, and of technology,
    None can comprehend, the wisdom or the works of God;
and so, it's easier to pretend that He does exit, and to consider such thing as Logic etc.
Yet it is written: the spirit of man went back to God who gave it in the first place.
Thanks for sharing, surly it will get all readers thinking!

A very nice poem and congratulations on having it selected as poem of the day.
To answer your question, when a spirit leaves this life it returns that God who gave it life, to be judged according to its works here on earth.
