The Soul Of Betty Trencher Poem by Francis Duggan

The Soul Of Betty Trencher

Rating: 5.0

Perhaps her soul is living elsewhere in a baby miles away
But the birds are always singing where Betty's ashes lay
On a June tuesday evening at Allambe around twenty after four
Her remains to earth committed for to rest forever more.

She loved the Gold Coast Betty where she lived her twilight years
And when we do remember her let it not be in tears
For she loved life right till the end and her only wish that she
Be buried on the Gold Coast in a simple ceremony.

Her ashes may be with the dead but her spirit hasn't gone
And the soul of Betty Trencher forever will live on
And whenever I remember her the memories come to me
Of a woman loyal to her friends and to her family.

A marvellous personality in her own charming way
And of her wit and sense of humour the memories will stay
The matriarch of the Trencher clan who could forget her face
At every family gathering Betty took pride of place.

Don't say she's gone forever though her ashes in the ground
For the soul of Betty Trencher will always be around
She rest in peace in Nerang in the shadow of the trees
Where the birds whistle and carol in the cool evening breeze
