The So Called First Love And Mighty Mouse Poem by nadia abduljabbar

The So Called First Love And Mighty Mouse

Women grow mature
Faster than men concerning
The subject of physical beauty;
They can substitute it
With inner, intellectual
Or even spiritual
Beauty.

He visited us in the Feast
After Ramadan days before
I finish sixteen. Father did not
Oppress us to wear head cover
And did not believe much
In sexes segregation.

I was one of one of the few
Most beautiful girls in Makkah,
But he was THE most handsome
Young man in town. He was more
Handsome than”Hussien Fahmy”;
The famous Egyptian actor,
In his Prime time,
But all in all
From the same type.

He declared his admiration
To his and my family,
For he was a far relative,
And I thought myself in love as well,
But to be in love for Makkah's decent
Girls from grand families
Meant to dream of love alone.

A wicked brother made friendship-
Whom I now thank for his wickedness-
With him to destroy stem of marriage.
A sister arranged a meeting some years
Later because I wanted to see his mind.

I, mother, widow sister and her children
Met with him in a famous café
Called “ Kello Asharah”,
In the road between
Makkah and Jeddah.

In my second English Year,
Like a police man I began
The intellectual invistigation:
What do you read, asked I,
“Mighty Mouse Magazine”
Was the shaky reply,
For my brother has already
Frightened him from me;

He told him I used to read
Piles of the old Egyptian
Intellectual magazine:
“AL RESALAH” in which great
Writers like “AL AKAAD”,
“AL MANFALOOTY”, “AL RAF’Y”
And even the Syrian Ali Al Tentawy
Used to debate literary topics.

My Romantic personality
Which he could not feel,
Was formed by the Arabic
Translation of 'King Lear',
Which I read when I was only
Eight years old,
But decided to read it
In its original language
As soon as I learn it,
And tis is what happened.

Part of my romantic character
Was also formed by:
Abdul Haleem Abdulah's novel:
'Shajaret Aleblab'
'Khan AlKhalily',
And Al-Manfalootey's books:
'AL Nazarat',
'AL Abarat',
And ' The Poet'.

In the age of furteen I read
The book that discusses
The reasons behind the distruction
Of aero planes in airport
At dawn in 1967 WAR.

Imagine me now,
If I were married to such
A handsome man in appearance
Not in mind, I would have been
Suffering a hell of time,
And you would be seeing
A row of children in my
Living room reading
OR watching
With their father
MIGHTY MOUSE.
