The Sleepless Eye Poem by Matthew Holloway

The Sleepless Eye

Counting stars in a winter sky
While breath circles upwards
Waiting for the sun to rise
Notching every hour, away
To break the hypnosis of night
Anticipating the rising sun
To cut through tree branches
Creating shapes, images and thoughts
Cold, chilling the skin in equal measure
While black skies turn a dark blue
Fresh from a violet intervention
Its not just the day
But its perception that’s changing
Counting stars in a winters sky
Ode to the sleepless eye
