The Sinner Behind The Smile Poem by Claire Jones

The Sinner Behind The Smile

Rating: 5.0

An open palm handshake
With black eyes of despair
Acid kisses from your heart
True compassion not to care

Braille love letters
But no fingers to read
The soul of a dead man
Crying tears that bleed

Stronger instincts than a killer
Less homely than a grave
Autistic physical closeness
As bitter as a slave

Trapped within your feelings
I can sense your shrivelled heart
Poisonous words you whisper
Tongue sharper than a dart

In darkness you scream out my name
You scar me with your claws
I'm defeaned by your heartbeat
And silenced by your roars.

Friendly faces with unfriendly intentions... sounds like many people I've met. Mostly family poems. So poetically true. I usually pull those fools out- like a bad toothache.
