The Single Mother Poem by Latha Krishnan

The Single Mother

"Is my child okay at school?
Has he reached home from school? Why no call yet?
How will I attend the parents' meeting at his school,
When I have an important meeting to attend at work?
Will I get leave to take a trip with him somewhere during school break? "

Oh so many questions like these teeming in her mind
The single mother soldiers on!
She may be indulgent but she is firm;
She knows she has to be strong for the child and herself;
She is ready to turn mental cartwheels to keep their life happy
And she never makes him feel that they are to be pitied
Because there are only the two of them in this family;
Wherever whenever they go out together
They make a good team and both strive to keep it so.

She works harder than many other mothers
The single mother does!
But she has the love of her child in double measure
Because he realizes her sacrifices and devotion to him
And to their life together!
They make a good team - the two of them!
